Welcome to G Momma’s House: a place where a burned-out caregiver shares her thoughts of being a long-term caregiver and trying to balance life, an empty nest, and heading into a new decade—or as I like to call it “50 and Fabulous”. So, pull up a chair, uncork a good bottle of wine, and let’s get this journey started!
Welcome to my blog! Whew, what a challenge this is going to be for me! I’m Staci, and I’ve been a caregiver my whole adult life to my mother who is bedridden with Rheumatoid Arthritis. I was blessed with two of the most incredible daughters. My oldest lives and works in New York City and my youngest is a junior in high school, so an empty nest is right around the corner. I also have three of the cutest dogs ever: two miniature dachshunds (aka “weenie dogs”) and one “dorkie”, who’s half teacup-yorkie and half mini dachshund! I live in the beautiful small town of Maryville, Tennessee, and I love being surrounded by my beautiful mountains. I enjoy a good glass of wine and enjoying all kinds of good food.
As I will be entering my 50’s in a few months, I am now embarking on a new journey in life. I feel like I am standing on a treadmill as life moves on without me. I’m trying to figure out how to find a little happiness for me while always being a caregiver and putting others needs and wants before my own. My oldest daughter gently pushed me into starting this blog. I’m nervous and scared and even wonder who in the world is going to want to read the ramblings of a burned-out caregiver. I hope I can be a little inspirational, funny, informative, and above all honest. Being honest and owning our life is something new to me, and I hope through this blog I can grow and learn how to finally be the WOMAN—and yes I said woman, because as caregivers we often lose our identities—I know I can be! If not, wine always helps!
